Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 into a very poor family with 12 kids later on, realized early that she was able to escape the hardships of her life by using a imaginative mind. Before learning how to read and write, Dolly Parton was creating her own songs. Her first guitar purchase came when she was just 8 years old and started performing on the Knoxville Tenn radio station at age 11. In the following year, Gold Band Records was a small independent record label. The singer established a name in the local scene while at high school, but always dreamed of having a bigger stage. When she was graduating in 1964, she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) and Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner's syndicated TV show was in need of the services of a new singer by the time. Parton accepted the role in 1966, joined RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in the year 1969. In 1974, she resigned from Wagoner's Show because the success of her singles like Joshua Coats Of Many Colors or Jolene was outstripping their joint releases. Parton wrote I Will Always love You in honor of Wagoner following their split. It reached number one. Its first appearance at number 1 was in 1974.
